Refund & Cancellation Policy
First Move Chess Academy (FMCA) aims to provide a structured chess-learning experience. This policy explains the terms for course cancellations, refunds, missed classes and rescheduling, subject to applicable law.
1. Enrolment and Payments
Enrolment is confirmed after registration and payment of applicable fees. Students and parents should review the course details, fees, schedule and cancellation terms before paying.
2. Cancellation Before the Course Begins
Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing through FMCA’s official contact channels.
Refund eligibility depends on the timing of the request, the agreed course terms and whether services have already been provided. Any deductions must be disclosed, applicable and lawful.
3. Cancellation After the Course Begins
Once the course has commenced, all fees paid are non-refundable, and no refund will be provided if a student chooses to discontinue the course, subject to applicable law.
4. Missed Classes and Rescheduling
Classes missed due to illness, travel, personal commitments or student-side technical issues are not automatically eligible for refunds or make-up sessions.
Parents should inform FMCA as early as possible. Rescheduling requests will be considered according to programme rules and coach availability.
5. Classes Cancelled by FMCA
If FMCA cancels a class due to coach unavailability or operational issues, we will make reasonable efforts to reschedule it.
If a programme is discontinued by FMCA, the handling of unused prepaid fees will be communicated to affected students or parents.
6. Online Class Technical Issues
Students are responsible for their devices and internet connection. Student-side technical issues do not automatically qualify for refunds.
If an issue on FMCA’s side prevents a class from being delivered, we will make reasonable efforts to arrange a replacement or appropriate alternative.
7. Demo Classes and Events
Paid demo classes are subject to the terms communicated before payment. If FMCA cancels a paid demo class and cannot offer a replacement, the amount paid will be refunded.
Tournament, workshop and event fees may have separate cancellation terms. If FMCA cancels an event, applicable refund or alternative arrangements will be communicated. Events managed by independent organisers may follow their own published policies.
8. Duplicate or Incorrect Payments
Customers should contact FMCA with the transaction details if a duplicate or incorrect payment occurs. After verification, an appropriate correction or refund will be arranged where applicable.
9. How to Request a Refund
Please contact FMCA through its official email address or designated contact channel and provide:
- Student or parent’s name and registered contact details.
- Course or programme name.
- Payment date and transaction reference.
- Reason for the request.
FMCA may request additional information to verify the transaction and assess eligibility.
10. Refund Processing Time
Approved refunds will generally be initiated within 7–10 business days, through the original payment method wherever possible. The time taken for the amount to appear in your account depends on the bank, payment provider and any applicable verification process.
11. Non-Refundable Charges
Fees for services already delivered and classes already conducted are generally non-refundable, subject to applicable law. Other deductions or non-refundable charges must be disclosed before payment and comply with applicable law.
Nothing in this policy removes any consumer rights available under applicable law.
12. Policy Updates
FMCA may update this policy to reflect changes in programmes, payment procedures or legal requirements. The latest version will be published on this page with the revised date.
